#EastonPleinAir: wheels up!

September 29, 2015 – by ellen shaughnessy

70 juried fine art and fine craft artists exhibited and competed to win $1600 in prizes on September 19 & 20, 2015 at the Riverside Festival of the Arts . They met where the rivers meet, in downtown Easton along the scenic banks of the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers.  There was live music all weekend, childrens’ interactive art projects, and a 6th annual #EastonPleinAir Art Contest where you could win money for the best art.

Plein air art contestants received a canvas with their $10.00 entry, created an art piece ‘en plein air’ (in the open air) over the weekend, and had the opportunity win $1000 in prizes. Entry fees have gone up to $30 as the contest and awards have grown.

Contestants for the 6th annual Plein Air Art Contest hailed from a 60-mile radius this year, with 22 painters. Plein air contestants handed in their art piece by 3:30 PM on Sunday, and exhibited in a “Plein Air Gallery” where the entries were judged by three regional art celebrity judges.

Plein air works were shown at the Plein Air Art Exhibition, Sept 25 at Brick+Mortar Art Gallery. We will soon be posting a 2015 plein air art album on facebook.com/riversideArts.

This year, a few Plein Air Art Workshops led by renowned artist and Baum School of Arts teacher Adriano Farinella led up to the contest…. Watch for more of his plein air workshops very soon – including urban sketches and more.

‘Easton is rich with subject matter for any plein-air painter. Whether it’s the Delaware River, Lehigh Canal, or the urban landscape and architecture, Easton is a prime destination for plein-air painters everywhere to come and explore. We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful and inspiring area.’ ~Adriano Farinella

Adriano teaches painting at the Baum School of Art in Allentown and gives plein air painting workshops… June 4-6, 2017 is his next one in Allentown for the West Civic Park Foundation.

The 20th annual Riverside Arts Festival & Plein Air Art Contest will be on September 17+18, 2016 – see you there!
